After being laid off by my previous employer, I’ve been looking for the next gig for the past two months. This time around, compared to my job hunt in 2022, there were significantly more remote offers, however part-time opportunities (i.e. anything below 40 hours) are still rare. Hereby, once again, I’m sharing the retrospect of my journey of finding a lead or senior full-stack engineer job.
My main criteria for the new job was:
- team members are grown up adults
- it’s an ethical business
- allows me to work fully remotely (European timezone)
- allows me to work part-time (32 hours/week)
- pays me a salary to have savings

Take aways
- Following my own advise from my previous job hunt, I immediately reached out to friends to see if anyone knew of any job openings. This strategy worked again.
- If I wasn’t successful in finding a job within two months, I was willing to open up for full-time offers. I thought that this way, I would have the opportunity to prove that I do a great work, and then, just before the end of the probation period, I would express my desire to work four days a week.
- Most full stack developer job listings I came across required the knowledge of Node, Next, Remix, Nest, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, AWS, or Kubernetes. I didn’t see any European position where knowledge of Elm was listed.
- Surprisingly, I never heard back about my application from one of the companies I worked in the past.
